Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Your private guide will pick you up in Kampala and begin your Gorilla Trekking Experience with Safaris By Jon. En route to your wildlife safari in Murchison Falls National Park, we will have a stopover at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This 70 square kilometer sanctuary is home to over 20 white rhinos from other areas of Africa that are slowly being habituated to the vegetation and climate of Uganda before their eventual release into the wild. After your experience at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, we shall have a lunch stop and thereafter proceed to Murchison Falls National Park for your Big 4 Wildlife Safari.

Day 2: Wildlife Safari & Boat Safari on the River Nile

After an early breakfast, you and your private guide will head on a morning game drive on the northern bank in search of elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, giraffe, and a variety of other wildlife. After our game drive you will head back to the lodge for lunch and then depart for your afternoon river safari on the River Nile. From the safety of your boat, watch elephants drink alongside the river banks as hippos and crocodiles patrol the water. At the culmination of your river safari, you will be dropped at the bottom of Murchison Falls where you will hike to the top of the falls. After your time admiring the falls, your private guide will meet you and drive you back to the lodge for dinner.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After an early breakfast, you and your private guide will depart Murchison Falls and proceed on our day long journey to Kibale Forest National Park. After a lunch stop, you will arrive in Kibale Forest in the afternoon for a walk through local villages and short hike to spectacular views of the surrounding lakes and countryside.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking & Bigodi Swamp Walk

After an early breakfast, you and your private guide will proceed to the park headquarters in Kibale Forest National Park. After a short briefing by one of the park staff you will be allocated a guide who will lead you into the forest to find the chimpanzees. This park is the best place in East Africa for primate tracking and viewing the chimpanzee- man’s closest relative. After lunch we will then head out for the swamp walk which is very close to the park and home to a number of other primates and birds.

Day 5: Game drive en route to Bwindi Forest National Park and Batwa Experience

After breakfast, you and your private guide will set off for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP. We will use a route that passes through Queen Elizabeth National Park and therefore will have the chance to see lions, elephants, buffalo, and a variety of other wildlife on the drive. After arriving in Bwindi that afternoon, you will have the privilege to visit a rural Botwa village and experience the local pygmy culture and learn their history and relationship with Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Afterwards we will head back to the lodge for dinner and an early night in anticipation of our gorilla trekking experience the next day.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking & Community Visit

Today is the reason why so many travelers head specifically to Uganda, Gorilla Trekking. Directly after breakfast we will head out to the park headquarters for our briefing from the head UWA guide. There you will meet your personal guide and rangers who will lead you through the forest in pursuit of the Gorillas. Depending upon your physical capabilities and desire to hike, the hike through the jungle can take 2-8 hours depending on the location of your specific family of Gorillas. Upon finding the family of Gorillas, you will be allowed to spend an entire hour with them to photograph and observe them. Your personal guide and rangers are incredibly experienced with the Gorillas and will give you guidance as they ensure your safety throughout the duration of the experience. After your trek, return to your lodge where you will be serenaded by local Batwa singers and dancers before dinner.

Day 7: Transfer to Kampala

After breakfast, you and your private guide will depart Bwindi for Kampala with another lunch stop in Mbarara and another stop at the equator for some photographs or Ugandan curios to take home. After we drop you off in Kampala after a successful trip, this marks the end of your Gorilla Trekking Experience with Safaris By Jon.
