<image:title>Queen Elizabeth NP - Overview</image:title>
<image:caption>In traveling to Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will be rewarded with beauty and adventure. It is one of Uganda’s most beautiful national parks with some of the best game views. Located in Kyambura, it surrounds the southeastern banks of the Kazinga Channel consisting of four crater lakes, with a sector in Ishaka that contains a variety of wildlife and the Maramagambo forest stretching up to the eastern escarpment. Located in the middle of south western Uganda, it amalgamates with Kigezi and the Kyambura Wildlife Reserves to form one of Africa’s most unique ecosystems stretching from the views of the crater lakes region on the linings of the tall standing Rwenzori Ranges extending along the shores of Lake Edward to River Ishasha in the southern part of the national park. Experience the beautiful variety of wildlife, plenty of scenic craters blended into rolling green hills, views of the Kazinga Channel which is blessed with hippos, buffalo and elephants along its banks, and the endless Ishasha plains with a series of Lakes of different types and sizes which range from great fresh water lake and inland salt lakes to mirror surfaced crater lakes. The best sighting of animals is with the morning game rides where you have the opportunity to see them as they wake up and cross the plains in search of a little morning sun. You can never go wrong with the concentration of wildlife here.</image:caption>

This different vegetation including forest, grassland, bushy grassland, Acacia woodland and swamp vegetation, depicts the ability of the park to house 95 types of mammals and 612 species of birds, more than are found in any protected area in Africa.</image:caption>

<image:title>Queen Elizabeth NP - How To Get There</image:title>
<image:caption>Queen Elizabeth National Park lies within the Western Rift Valley of Africa running from the north through neighboring Malawi and south to Uganda. It is between the Kasese, Kamwenge, Bushenyi and Rukungiri districts in southwestern Uganda. By Road The main route from Kampala takes you through Masaka, Mbarara taking Kasese road through Bushenyi to Rubirizi and then to the park. The driving distance is estimated to be 420kms depending on where you will be staying. This tends to be the direct route and commonly used for those who starting from Kampala direct to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The second route would be from Kampala to Kasese through Fortpotal and then lastly to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This and the above route all connect you to the northern sector of the park and from there you can connect to the southern. For those coming from the south west, that is Bwindi or Ntungamo/ Kabale, Queen Elizabeth can be accessed through Kihihi and then to Ishasha which is the southern sector of the park. By Air Queen Elizabeth National Park is also accessible by air through the nearby airstrips of Kasese, Mweya or Ishasha by scheduled flight or chartered aircraft from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield near Kampala.</image:caption>

<image:title>Queen Elizabeth NP - When To Visit</image:title>
<image:caption>December, January, February, June, July, August and September are best months to travel here although one can visit any time. June, July, August, January and February are the driest months of the year during which the animals can easily be viewed as they draw closer to the water sources. This is the best time to go on game drives to view wildlife, take guided walks and go on chimpanzee tracking expeditions when the trails are not slippery and impassible. During the wet season of October, November, December, March, April and May, the scenery in and around the park is extremely beautiful with green and lush vegetation capturing the true picture of the tropics. There are migratory birds from Europe and Northern Africa in the park during this season, which makes it the best for bird watching.</image:caption>

<image:title>Murchison Falls - Overview</image:title>
<image:caption>This should be high on your bucket list. Here, the historic Murchison Falls coexist with amazing wildlife. Named after the dramatic Murchison Falls, Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest protected wildlife sanctuary with a wonderful artistry of natural landscapes awaiting visitors in the park. You can make the best memories from this amazing destination with a perfect blend of rivers, great Savannah woodlands, grasslands, plains and forests making it an ideal place to view and appreciate nature and biodiversity. Here, the mighty Nile River bisects the flourishing vegetation before bursting through a chasm in the Rift Valley escarpment to form the raging Murchison Falls. Murchison Falls is a waterfall found on the course of the great Nile breaking the stunning Victoria Nile from the vast Lake Victoria to the deep Lake Kyoga and continuing to the northern tip of Lake Albert within the western arm of the great East African Rift. Here, the waters of the Nile force their way through a small slit within the rocks, which is just 7 meters and topples to 43 meters with a thunderous roar forming a residual water spray forming a breathtaking beautiful rainbow as it continues westward, draining the last of the river’s energy, transforming it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly across the Rift Valley floor into Lake Albert.</image:caption>

<image:title>Queen Elizabeth NP - Overview</image:title>
<image:caption>Kibale Forest National Park is a total venue with its open savannah connecting into woodland, and both tropical and evergreen rainforests, creating one of the last expanses of land in Uganda boasting both lowland and montane forest. Every trek into Kibale Forest is an amazing adventure where you can take part in a Chimpanzee Trekking adventure in the marvelous forest with the highest diversity and concentration of primates found on the entire continent; ranging from the chimpanzees, L’Hoest monkeys, red colobus monkeys, and other endangered primates. It is located in the Eastern part of Uganda’s snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, and offers a scenic forest habitat. The area is home to 13 species of primates, including chimpanzees, some families of which have been habituated. There is a large wildlife corridor linking Kibale Forest National park to Queen Elizabeth National Park, with African elephants roaming freely between both sanctuaries. The park is located close to the calm Ndali Kasenda crater area, Rwenzori Mountains and Semuliki National Parks along with the Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve.</image:caption>

<image:title>Queen Elizabeth NP - How To Get There</image:title>
<image:caption>By Road It is around 320kms from Kampala to Fortpotal and then approximately an hour to the forest on Kamwenge road. This route is regarded as the main and direct route which is paved all the way from Kampala. By Air Those who prefer not to take long tiresome drives can opt for scheduled flights from Entebbe Airport to Kasese Airstrip and then drive to their respective lodges or to the park.</image:caption>

<image:title>Queen Elizabeth NP - Chimpanzee Trekking</image:title>
<image:caption>This experience provides you with the opportunity to venture into the natural jungle and spend a number of hours tracking these gorgeous Chimpanzees. When you encounter the primates, you will be allowed an hour to observe them swinging from one tree to another, feeding, playing about or progressing speedily on the ground right in front of you. Chimpanzees are the prime attraction for many visiting Kibale National Park. Before setting out on your trek, you will receive a briefing from the ranger guide, which covers the expectations while in the forest and information about the wildlife in the park.</image:caption>

<image:title>Queen Elizabeth NP - Chimpanzee Habituation</image:title>
<image:caption>Chimpanzees are habituated for a period over 2 years before they become accustomed to humans. Once this happens, chimpanzee trekking can begin for these groups. Here along with the rangers and research staff, you watch chimpanzees leaving their overnight nests before they start their daily activities of feeding, hunting, copulating, breastfeeding, patrolling and resting until they break off for the night by building new nests at about 7pm.</image:caption>

<image:title>Queen Elizabeth NP - When To Go</image:title>
<image:caption>The park is open year-round and can be visited anytime of the year with the best time to visit being during the hot/ dry months of January and February as well as June, July and August when animals will stay near the water. However, during the rainy season, which runs from September to December and March to May, roads are difficult to use with the trails in the park likely to be muddy, slippery and impassible. But it will be still be possible to see the chimpanzees because the landscape is not mountainous.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gorilla Trekking - General Information</image:title>
<image:caption>Gorilla families move daily and never remain in an area for a long period of time as they are constantly on the move in search of food and safety. UWA expert trackers and guides will lead you to the elusive Gorillas. Gorilla Permits must be booked far in advance due to limited supply and high demand, especially during the high season. Safaris By Jon is a licensed tour operator in Uganda and Gorilla Permits can only be purchased through operators such as ourselves. Only 8 visitors are allowed to view the Gorillas for one hour per day, participants must be aged 15 or over. and they will be accompanied by UWA Rangers and guides while with the Gorillas. Tracking the Gorillas can last from a few hours to a whole day, depending on how far the group has moved since it was observed nesting up the previous evening. Clients can request for shorter or longer treks before the trip and the use of local porters to carry heavy equipment is advised.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gorilla Trekking - Why Trek In Uganda?</image:title>

Kibale Forest offers some of the best Chimpanzee Trekking Experiences in the world and Boat Safaris on the River Nile cannot be missed. Uganda has a multitude of renowned National Parks that vary in both landscape and bioversity to offer premiere wildlife safaris in addition to your Gorilla Trekking Experience. In Uganda, Gorillas can be found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. <image:title>Gorilla Trekking - How does Gorilla Trekking benefit the Mountain Gorillas?</image:title>
<image:caption>All of the money from your Gorilla permit goes towards to paying the guides, trackers, rangers, the infrastructure of Bwindi National Park, anti-poaching units, and everything else that goes into protecting these gorillas. Gorilla Trekking in Uganda has proved to be one of the most successful and sustainable models of wildlife tourism in the world. In a 2010 census by the UWA, there were 786 mountain gorillas in the world. Today, there are a little over 1,000. These numbers are proof that supporting gorilla trekking and other wildlife based tourism in these National Parks can protect these endangered Gorillas.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gorilla Trekking - When To Go?</image:title>
<image:caption>Gorilla Trekking can be done throughout the entire year. It can also be done in the rainy season, although the tracks in the rain forest might be a bit muddier and your tracking might be a bit longer/ tougher compared to the dry season, which is the best time to track gorillas. However, the best time to go gorilla trekking is during the months of December to February as well as June to August. These are the driest months of the year in Uganda and it is when the country sees big numbers of tourists as compared to the wet months where the number of tourists is less.</image:caption>

<image:title>Chimpanzee Trekking - General Information</image:title>
<image:caption>Chimpanzee Permits must be booked far in advance due to limited supply and high demand, especially during the high season. Safaris By Jon is a licensed tour operator in Uganda and Chimpanzee Permits can only be purchased through operators such as ourselves. Many chimpanzee trekking sites in Uganda offer travelers two sessions of being with these primates. Each chimpanzee trekking session must not have more than 8 tourists. The first session is in the morning from 8am and the second is done in the afternoon from 2pm. With this, the traveler is given chance to choose on which session to take depending on his or her schedule. However one must take note that in the morning the chimpanzees are usually mobile and up in the trees because it is their time to feed and hunt while in the afternoon they at times come down to the ground for resting, grooming each other and mating.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Money from your Chimpanzee Permit funds the guides, trackers, rangers, the infrastructure of National Parks, anti-poaching units, and everything else that goes into protecting these chimpanzees. Chimpanzee Trekking in Africa has proven to be one of the most successful and sustainable models for the conservation of chimpanzees.</image:caption>

<image:title>Chimpanzee Trekking - When To Go?</image:title>
<image:caption>Chimpanzee Trekking can be done at anytime of the year, however the best time to visit are the hot and dry months of January, February, June, July, and August when animals will stay closer to water sources. The rainy season runs from September to December and March to May. It is still possible to see the chimpanzees during the rainy season, you just will have to work harder as the roads and trails are more difficult to use.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - Overview</image:title>
<image:caption>Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park This is an awesome and pleasant jungle alongside an old forest with beautiful landscapes throughout Bwindi forest and another leading travel destination in Africa and Uganda. The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is breathtaking and gets its intriguing name from the vegetation that is so thick that it is nearly impenetrable. It offers the exciting opportunity to see the mountain gorillas up close, leaving a long lasting memory and a joyous feeling. Located in the heart of Virunga Massif, you are quickly awed by the beauty of your surroundings and the anticipation of encountering the largest apes. At the same time, your determination will propel you forward through the challenging terrain as you make your way through the jungle and forest to discover the beauties of the National Park. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is situated along the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo on the edge of the Albertine Rift Valley and north of the Virunga Volcanoes with Rwanda. It offers a massive, enticing outlook through the slopes of the hills of Bwindi massif with its swath of steep mountains covered in thick steamy jungle. These forests is magnificent, magical, and otherworldly as you make your way through it, your excitement and anticipation builds as you prepare to look into the silverback’s eyes. Being one of Africa’s most ancient habitats, it survived the last Ice Age as most of the continent’s other forests disappeared and is the only place where chimpanzees and gorillas coexist in the same habitat with forest elephants and extremely rare birds. The park has managed to house over 400 Gorillas due to sound conservation practices, resulting in a very interesting experience for Gorilla Trekking and viewing the amazing scenery of the Virunga massif, the Rwenzori backdrop, views of Lake Albert, plants, wildlife, birds, and primates.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - Wildlife</image:title>
<image:caption>Bwindi Impenetrable National Park With a great biodiversity of vegetation in the park, it is a great habitat for the animals and birds .120 species of mammals including mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, black and white colobus, red-tailed guenon, vervet monkeys, L’Hoest guenon, baboons, nocturnal prosimians, forest elephants, duikers, bush pigs, giant forest hogs, several small species of cats alongside 360 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has a variety of wildlife calling it home, but most notable are the impressive endangered Mountain Gorillas that can only be seen in Africa in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. Only about 1000 Mountain Gorillas remain in the world and half of them inhabit the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The forest boasts 18 habituated gorilla families located in different sections of the Park, with four gorilla families in Buhoma (Mubare, Habinyanja, Rushegura and Katwe), four in Ruhija (Oruzogo, Bitukura, Kyaguriro and Mukiza), seven in Rushaga (Busingye, Bweza, Bikingi, Kahungye, Mishaya, Nshongi and Kutu) and three in Nkuringo (Nkuringo, Bishaho and Christmas).</image:caption>

<image:title>Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - How To Get There</image:title>
<image:caption>By Road Determining which route to use depends on which sector of Bwindi you could be going to and a 4wd vehicle would be recommended because these routes tend to be so slippery during the wet season. The following are the different routes; To Buhoma sector; This route will start from Kampala through Masaka – Mbarara – Ntungamo – Rukungiri – Kihihi – Kanyantorogo – Butogota and lastly to Buhoma. But is you are coming from Queen Elizabeth National Park, you may have to through Ishasha to Kihihi – Kanyantorogo-Butogota and then to Buhoma To Ruhija sector; This will also start from Kampala through Masaka – Mbarara – Ntungamo – Kabale and then keep on Kisoro road for some 20kms where you will find a big sign post on right showing Bwindi Forest National Park – Ruhija 26km & Buhoma 76km. This route can also be used by those coming from Kabale as well as those from Kisoro. To Rushaga & Nkuringo sectors; These two sectors can be accessed through Kisoro town. But if you are coming from Kabale you can use a shorter route before Kisoro town at a point which is around 45km from Kabale on Kisoro road. This point has a number of sign posts indicating the different lodges in Rushaga sector. By Air Some travelers can choose to fly to cut the time they spend on the road or because they have less travel days. A scheduled flight can be booked with Aerolink from Entebbe International Airport or from Kampala at Kajansi airfield to the airstrips in Kisoro if you are tracking the southern sector or Kihihi and Kayonza for travellers tracking for the northern area.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - Gorilla Trekking</image:title>
<image:caption>A Gorilla Trek is one of the most thrilling experiences a traveler can have on a jungle adventure. The trek starts when you reach the briefing point at any tracking location. Tracking gorillas takes time, patience and good knowledge of the forest’s ways and the habits of the mountain gorillas. Mountain Gorillas are mind blowing and many are often at a loss of words when they find themselves finally standing just a few meters away from them. You will have an hour to enjoy these truly magical moments that will forever be ingrained in your mind and can’t be replicated anywhere else in the world. <image:title>Mgahinga Gorilla NP - Overview</image:title>

<image:title>Mgahinga Gorilla NP - When To Go</image:title>
<image:caption>The park is open year-round and can be visited anytime of the year with the best time to visit being during the hot/ dry months of January and February as well as June, July and August when animals will stay near the water. However, during the rainy season, which runs from September to December and March to May, roads are difficult to use with the trails in the park likely to be muddy, slippery and impassible. But it will be still be possible to see the chimpanzees because the landscape is not mountainous.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Rwenzori Mountains - Chimpanzee Trekking</image:title>
<image:caption>This experience provides you with the opportunity to venture into the natural jungle and spend a number of hours tracking these gorgeous Chimpanzees. When you encounter the primates, you will be allowed an hour to observe them swinging from one tree to another, feeding, playing about or progressing speedily on the ground right in front of you. Chimpanzees are the prime attraction for many visiting Kibale National Park. Before setting out on your trek, you will receive a briefing from the ranger guide, which covers the expectations while in the forest and information about the wildlife in the park.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Rwenzori Mountains - Chimpanzee Habituation</image:title>
<image:caption>Chimpanzees are habituated for a period over 2 years before they become accustomed to humans. Once this happens, chimpanzee trekking can begin for these groups. Here along with the rangers and research staff, you watch chimpanzees leaving their overnight nests before they start their daily activities of feeding, hunting, copulating, breastfeeding, patrolling and resting until they break off for the night by building new nests at about 7pm.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Rwenzori Mountains - How To Get There</image:title>
<image:caption>By Road It is around 320kms from Kampala to Fortpotal and then approximately an hour to the forest on Kamwenge road. This route is regarded as the main and direct route which is paved all the way from Kampala. By Air Those who prefer not to take long tiresome drives can opt for scheduled flights from Entebbe Airport to Kasese Airstrip and then drive to their respective lodges or to the park.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Rwenzori Mountains - When To Go</image:title>
<image:caption>The park is open year-round and can be visited anytime of the year with the best time to visit being during the hot/ dry months of January and February as well as June, July and August when animals will stay near the water. However, during the rainy season, which runs from September to December and March to May, roads are difficult to use with the trails in the park likely to be muddy, slippery and impassible. But it will be still be possible to see the chimpanzees because the landscape is not mountainous.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bwindi Impenetrable - Overview.</image:title>
<image:caption>This is an awesome and pleasant jungle alongside an old forest with beautiful landscapes throughout Bwindi forest and another leading travel destination in Africa and Uganda.

<image:title>Bwindi Impenetrable - Vegetation</image:title>
<image:caption>Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is a tropical rain forest in East Africa consisting of the lowland and montane vegetation zones meeting together. It was able to protect the jungle during the ice age and served as a water hub for most of the wildlife species that relied on the forest; unlike other areas that lacked forest or vegetation cover. Bwindi has numerous vegetation types that are widely categorized into medium altitude. Moist ever green and the Afro montane forest have a highly limited vegetation category in Africa. The park is covered by mixed forest which is concentrated around its altitudes and is characterized by canopy from plant species like red stinkwood, newtonia, symphonia globulifera, and East African yellow wood and strombosia scheffleri. Beneath the main forest there are species like xymalos, neoboutonia macrocalyx, monospora, myrianthus holstii, and teclea nobilis and allophylus abyssinicus. The vegetation diversity provides a large feeding area for the mountain gorillas, forest elephants and other ground-dependent wildlife in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The forest elephants have also been attributed for the creation and maintenance of the open places within the jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. These elephants are attracted to the existent swampy areas within the jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest during the dry season. The water catchment area in the forest provides a platform for agriculture, (no comma needed here) for the nearby local communities as well as the major source for several rivers like Ivi, Munyaga, Ihihizo Ishasha and Ntengyere, that drain into Lake Edward with rivers Ndego, Kanyamwabo and Shongi flowing southwards to Lake Mutanda. The park has 400 plant species and intense wildlife diversity made of numerous ferns, colorful orchids, epithetic ferns, and lush fogy rainforests alongside a wide variety of bird species, wildlife and butterflies. Apart from the gorillas, one can experience the beauty of the wildlife, along with flora and other numerous coexisting fauna in the park, as well as the various vegetation types that are defined by their altitudes offering a unique biodiversity.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bwindi Impenetrable - What To Do</image:title>
<image:caption>Regarding biodiversity, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has the most unique with plant species that can’t be found in any other park. It boasts various animal species, butterflies, birds and of course, the endangered Mountain Gorillas that are the biggest attraction for travellers to this park. Below are some of the activities you can choose to participate in during your visit to the park. Gorilla Trekking A Gorilla Trek is one of the most thrilling experiences a traveler can have on a jungle adventure. Bwindi Forest is mostly frequented for Gorilla Trekking and is the main reason that most visitors come to this park as it provides an incredible backdrop for this once in a lifetime adventure. Gorilla Habituation Experience In Uganda this experience can only be encountered in the Rushaga tracking location of the Park. Here, you will spend 4 hours with the Mountain Gorilla Family with not more than 4 participants. There are presently two family groups being habituated, meaning that they are becoming used to human contact and will not run away from visitors trekking them. Batwa Community Visit The Batwa People are the pygmies who were the first inhabitants of the forest for years as hunter-gatherers. The Batwa experiences in the Buhoma area and the Buniga Forest Walk, near Southern Bwindi, give you a glimpse into the lives and traditions of the Batwa as you help restore their heritage and keep their cultural practices alive. Hiking through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Hiking through the forest is led by a ranger-guide and can be done from Nkuringo tracking location to Buhoma or Vis versa and is famous with those who choose to trek gorillas twice, once in Buhoma and once in the South of the Park. Bird Watching in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of Africa’s number one birding sites with many species endemic to the forest. As one of the prime birding destinations in Africa, it is home to over 347 species of forest birds. Of those recorded in the Park, at least 70 out of 78 montane forest bird species occurring in the Albertine Rift region are found in the forest and 22 of the 36 endemic species in the region. Mountain Bike Rides Opt for a fascinating village walk or travel with a well-trained guide by bike, where you will ride into the Forest on paths such as the Ivy River Trail. The average Bike Ride is 3 hours or longer in length with much to see along the trail or road. Village Walks Conduct a 3-hour cultural walk through the village as you learn their ways of life and cultures of the people. You will be accompanied by a local guide who is knowledgeable about the local cultures and customs.</image:caption>

<image:title>Lake Bunyoni - Overview</image:title>

<image:title>4 Day Gorilla Safari - Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience and Community Visit</image:title>
<image:caption>Today is the reason why so many travelers head specifically to Uganda, Gorilla Trekking. Directly after breakfast we will head out to the park headquarters for our briefing from the head UWA guide. There you will meet your personal guide and rangers who will lead you through the forest in pursuit of the gorillas. Depending upon your physical capabilities and desire to hike, the hike through the jungle can take 2-8 hours depending on the location of your specific family of gorillas. Upon finding the family of gorillas, you will be allowed to spend an entire hour with them to photograph and observe them. Your personal guide and rangers are incredibly experienced with the gorillas and will give you guidance as they ensure your safety throughout the duration of the experience. After your trek, return to your lodge where you will be serenaded by local Batwa singers and dancers before dinner.</image:caption>
